Gakona Trifesta is a pedal, paddle, run along the three rivers in our community. The race concept was mulled over river floats and bonfires for years. Last year, we held our first race, with success and a desire to see others share in the fun.

The race is an opportunity to experience our rivers and awesome community with others who love the outdoors and a little friendly competition. It will be held July 16, with registration at 10:30 a.m. and the race at 11 a.m. Registration is $15, and proceeds go to the Copper River Watershed Project.

Participants must sign a waiver and assume all risks for themselves. Minors may participate with a guardian signing a waiver and assuming risks for the minor.

Prizes are awarded for top male finisher, top female finisher, best dressed, and most creative course down the river.

Participants bike from the Gakona Lodge (where you register) to the Gulkana River via the BLM easement, then board their pre-staged, non-motorized watercraft of choice to head down the Gulkana River to the take-out at the Richardson

Highway bridge. Once there, participants transition to the running portion, where they return along the Richardson and via the Copper River switchback trail to the finish line at the Gakona Lodge.

This year, the Gakona Volunteer Fire Department event immediately follows; so it will be an exciting day in Gakona!
