On Saturday, February 25th, Glennallen’s junior high Nordic skiers Simon McMahan and Hunter Carlton participated in time trials with the Valdez junior high ski team. The race took place on the beautifully groomed ski trails in Valdez, in and around Mineral Creek on a picturesque, bluebird day.

Simon and Hunter opted to ski the longer 6 km freestyle race loop and test their abilities on steep hills and tight corners. Pushed by their Valdez long-distance competitors, especially Zane Carruthers, all finished in the top three positions.

Zane crossed the finish line first with a time of 24 minutes and 58 seconds, while Hunter skied the distance in 25 minutes and 40 seconds, and Simon skied the distance in 25 minutes and 54 seconds. Sorry that we do not have the times of each Valdez ski athlete, but Coach Sarah and Coach Moira can furnish those to individuals there.

Thanks very much to Valdez coach Sarah Carter for the invite and opportunity!
