After nearly 2,000 miles, more than 120 matches, victories, defeats, learning and growing tougher mentally and physically, the Glennallen Middle School wrestling season culminated at the State Tournament on February 26 and 27. Six wrestlers finished the season: Sixth graders Conner Stockhausen, Will McMahan, and Sheperd Korth, and seventh graders James Serovy, Caleb Grandlinard, and Zane Gerlach.

Throughout the season, these young men made improvements each week as they learned to focus on the process of developing rather than the outcome of their matches.

Each athlete is still on the path to greatness, not just as wrestlers but as human beings. While outcomes haven’t been the team’s focus, they have talked a lot this season about the competitor vs. fan mentality. Competitors focus on the process while fans often want to know the outcome.

After winning a match this weekend, a wrestler from another team asked a Glennallen 6th grader if he’d won.

“It’s not important if I won or lost, it’s how I wrestled that matters,” he replied.

Glennallen wrestlers have shown a great deal of growth, and as the club season starts, they will continue along the path of mastering their sport and their lives.

And for the fans...here are some podium results:

• Hard won victories in the state’s most challenging meet - Caleb Grandlinard, Sheperd Korth and James Serovy

• 5th place--Conner Stockhausen,

• 1st place-- Zane Gerlach

These photos show that many of the team’s season highlights are about sharing new experiences and enjoying the company of friends who make them better, more well-rounded people.
