COVID-19 Holds Steady in the Copper Valley

Coronavirus continues to Circulate in the Copper Valley and Valdez.

As of Friday, September 1, the Copper River Native Association (CRNA) reported 49 total active cases in the area served by CRNA, Cross Road Medical Center and the Mount Sanford Health Consortium (MSHC). Of those, 27 were newly diagnosed patients. CRNA does not report hospitalization info. 

Updated information is available on the CRNA website, the site is updated weekly. CRNA does not provide daily counts in order to protect patient privacy.

As of Friday, September 1, the City of Valdez reported 29 active coronavirus cases among both Valdez residents and non-residents that had tested positive in Valdez. Of these, one unvaccinated non-resident was hospitalized in Anchorage on September 1 with worsening symptoms. 

Updated information is available on the City of Valdez website. New information is posted Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. 

Valdez public health nurse Terri Lynch (RN, BSN, Public Health Nurse III) and CRNA medical director Dr. Rebekah Robinson recommend vaccination as the best protection from developing severe or life threatening symptoms from COVID-19. In addition to vaccination, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) now recommends that even fully vaccinated people wear masks in public indoor settings in areas of substantial community spread to avoid spreading the disease to others.

This information reflects a 14-day regional estimation of the known COVID-19 cases as of September 6th.
