Community Christmas Bazaar

Minus 20-degree temperatures did not deter the annual Community Christmas Bazaar vendors from setting up their homemade wares this past Saturday at the Kenny Lake School.

Several youth fundraisers were there, including 4H kids with coffee, hot chocolate, and hot dogs, seventh grade selling popcorn, the Kenny Lake School Association with KLS hats and notecards, and the eighth graders selling Italian sodas.

The Copper Center Museum had educational materials, used Alaska themed books were for sale, and CRNA’s informational table about quitting tobacco was very popular among the youth with the free goodie bags.

Copper Basin businesses such as Flint Family Farms, Escalation Acres, and Casa De La Arte had tables full of their wares from quilted items to smoked salts and hand turned rolling pins to local honey and hand-crafted soaps.

Locals from the Copper Basin had tables exhibiting their crafting skills with hand-knitted or crocheted items, stuffed animals, fur mittens, ornaments, jewelry, hand crafted beauty products as well as a make your own decorative wreath ornament table. Delicious baked items were tempting all through the gym from homemade fudge to giant cinnamon rolls and cookies.

Holiday music added to the festive atmosphere and there was a good number of shoppers making the rounds throughout the day.

Sarah Nelson has been coordinating the local Community Christmas Bazaar for 18 years starting at the Chitina Community Hall, then the Kenny Lake Community Hall, and now at the Kenny Lake School. Thank you for organizing this great event that highlights all the Copper Basin’s local craftspeople.
