On October 28, the Greater Copper Valley Chamber of Commerce held its 34th annual meeting, an Oktoberfest hosted by the Old Town Copper Center Inn & Restaurant. A silent auction and door prizes donated by members of the community were also available. Guests representing various organizations from across the valley attended the dinner in person and via Zoom, including representatives from the offices of Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan.

John Becker, board president, began his president’s report by recognizing the business community in the valley and their efforts to support the board. He also gave a warm appreciation to volunteers “from fire, rescue, and emergency medical calls, day or night, that have grown over the generations and remain strong through community pride. There are too many to recognize in one meeting.”

“As a community, it is important that we look out for each other, that we help each other, and that we support each other. It is what makes us a strong community,” the president commented. He then challenged everyone to encourage one another to participate and volunteer in the community, “For that has been what keeps us strong,” he stated.

Another highlight of the evening was the election results cast by mailed ballots.

John Becker has served as board president for two consecutive years and was therefore due to be reelected or replaced. After a call for nominations from the floor, statements of support, and ballots, it was decided that Becker would continue to be standing president of the Greater Copper Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Awards were also presented to members and businesses of the community. The Outstanding Support Award was granted to Kathy Stratton. Volunteer Award went to Isaac Cain. Community Enhancement Award was given to the Subway of Glennallen. Community Investment Award was presented to Kenny Lake Mercantile and RV. Finally, Richard Dennis was the recipient of this year’s President Award.

The next board meeting will be Tuesday, November 9 at 5:30 pm.
