Bush Hockey Weekend in Tok
On December 12 and 13, Copper River Hockey players of all ages traveled the highway up to Tok to spend a couple of days displaying their hockey skills. In true Bush League fashion, the weekend consisted of various combinations of age groups and levels to result in a truly fun display of hockey skills, competition and camaraderie.
From the youngest little players in the 6 and under group (6U), to 18U players playing 3-on-3, it was a refreshing reminder of why this sport is important to rural Alaska. Ironically, as we drove to Tok in the dark in sub-zero weather, one of my daughters commented, “Isn’t it funny how popular hockey is in places where it doesn’t even snow?”
Bush weekends in Alaska in December really bring out a true love of the sport – watching players, coaches, volunteers, and spectators put aside the cold and dark to spend a couple days cheering on these kids and spending time with familiar, friendly faces that maybe we haven’t been able to see as much of this past year.
We hope YOU will come out and watch our kids play on their home ice – December 26th will be Seniors vs. Alumni and January 22-23 is our Bold ‘n’ Cold home weekend of games for all levels. Way to go hockey players, keep up the good work!
