Copper River School District student representatives attend monthly school board meetings, where they report on school activities and take questions from school board members. They also have a non-binding vote on motions. These reports were presented at the April regular board meeting.
Family and Consumer Sciences is in their cooking unit, and so far, they have successfully made four different ways to eat cauliflower. High school Health has been learning about mental health, and their next unit is Nutrition.
Prom is tentatively planned for April 18th.
Middle school Health has also been learning about mental health and mental illnesses. In Science, they are learning about aviation, and in English Language Arts, they are deciphering lyrics from songs to determine their meanings. In Math, it depends upon their grade level, but 8th grade is learning scientific notations, and 7th is learning about pre-algebra skills. Kindergarten through fifth grade are eagerly anticipating the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Bingo for Littles happened on March 18th, and it went well and was enjoyed by all.
In the month of March, Upstream had a relatively straightforward month. The public speaking class taught by Ms. Scribner has been continued, and is greatly appreciated by students. Other classes that have been taking place over at Upstream Learning include Intro to Robotics, where the two groups (Kenny Lake & Glennallen) met at Upstream.
Recently, there was also a Wilderness Survival class, which was taught at PWSC. Regarding upcoming classes, Upstream is attempting to organize both a homeschool shop program (no specific details as of now) and a home-ec class, which will be taught by Marlene Wenger.
In addition, on March 31st, mid-semester progress reports were due, and that is also that date that AKstar testing started. For middle school girls, basketball practice started on March 24th. Finally, upcoming events include a construction day field trip, which will take place on April 8th. It’s been a busy month at Glennallen lately. Regarding classes at GHS, a few students participated in the wilderness survival class, with many of them receiving certificates. Regarding travel events, AASG will be taking four students to Juneau on April 23-25, and FFA has its state convention on April 14-18.
Track has officially begun, but has not travelled. The same goes for middle school girls' basketball.
Some events in March were the awards assembly on March 26, and the school was closed due to frozen pipes from March 17-19. In addition, middle school had a field trip to the park on March 27th. Elementary has also been participating in their elementary volleyball, Little Diggers. Finally, there were parent-teacher conferences on April 1st. There are also many upcoming events for the month of April. First of all, Prom will be taking place at Kluti Klah Hall on April 11. On April 13-16, there is AKstar testing, on April 14, there is an AVTEC fair at the school, and on the 29th, there is an environmental fair.
Involving the student council, Stuco elections are now open, so grades 8-11 can apply to become an officer next year. For the officers going to AASG, Ms. Lorence is expecting resolutions to be completed before they leave.
In closing, the play, My Cousin Lino, is taking place on May 8th, 9th, and 11th.

Slana students in the NASP program are going to nationals, and there are five new students enrolled in Slana School now, bringing it to a grand total of seventeen students, plus whatever Upstream students participate in the NASP program. Overall, it’s been a good month in Slana.
