The Gulkana Village Council was awarded $350,000 to support the construction of a new community center.

Gulkana Village was one of a dozen organizations who received a combined total of $7,065,000 in funding from the Rasmuson Foundation. The grants will be used to support community-led efforts ranging from performing arts and community centers to medical transport, commercial mariculture development, and more.

“Good things are happening across Alaska,” said Rasmuson Foundation President and CEO Gretchen Guess. “Through large and small projects, Alaskans keep helping each other. We are proud to stand alongside these partners as they do the work that’s best for their communities.”

Some of the other June project approvals included: Alaska Public Media, with $650,000 to replace broadcast and information technology systems, the Native Village of Eklutna with $1 million toward construction of a new community center, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute with $190,000 to develop Alaska-relevant science curriculum.

Rasmuson Foundation was created in 1955 by Jenny Rasmuson, a Swedish missionary, and her son, Elmer, to honor her late husband, missionary and banker E.A. Rasmuson.
