The Glennallen girls basketball team was able to avenge a loss from earlier in the season on Thursday, Feb. 26. The Lady Panthers fell to Delta earlier in the year, but this non-league match-up resulted in a 25-20 victory.

“It was great to see the girls beat a team that we lost to earlier in the season,” head coach Jubilee Sutherland said. “It was a low scoring game, but our defense got the job done.”

Glennallen was behind 6-5 after the first quarter, and after both teams netted seven in the second it was 13-12 at the half. The Panthers were able to outscore the Huskies 6-2 in the third quarter, and this gave them an 18-15 lead entering the fourth.

The Panthers finished off the low-scoring win with seven more points in the final frame.

They were led by René Rock-Albert with 11 points and seven rebounds and Chisana Korth added six points. Alianna Stone had a well-rounded game with four points, six rebounds, six steals and two assists and Anniyah Stone had two points, one rebound, one assist and one steal. Chloe Palacios also had two points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Raylie Sutherland also tracked down two rebounds while getting two steals and one assist.

On Wednesday, Feb. 25 it was a much easier win for the Panthers, as they took down visiting Nenana on senior night, 68-26.

“A big conference win on senior night and a great evening to recognize Chisana and Raylie for the last four years of contributions to the program,” Sutherland said.

Glennallen raced to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter and they stayed in front 36-9 at the half and 52-20 entering the fourth.

Alianna Stone led the team with 18 points, Sutherland had 14, Rock-Albert added 12, Korth and Anniyah Stone had seven points each and Palacios added six points. Alianna Stone also had seven rebounds, 10 steals and six assists, Anniyah Stone was good for six rebounds and Sutherland had five rebounds, four steals and two assists. Korth managed to pass for five assists and she had four steals and three rebounds as well.

Glennallen (16-3 overall) plays in regional action at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, March 5-7.
