Ronan James Sna’xahlaeta’ Drinkwater (2010-2023)
Born 10/11/2010
Passed in the Lord 09/10/2023
Ronan’s beginning was a beautiful day in Anchorage on an October afternoon. He progressed through his toddlerhood with a warm heart, a loving family and a taste for adventure. Always inquisitive and smiling, we were able to witness him gaining a brother, and knowing the love of his grandpa Jerry and grandma Ellen before their passing.
The community and his family saw him grow in sports, culture, and faith. His love of new babies, dogs, and dancing was fun to watch and heartwarming. He enjoyed music, mushing, and learning. He was proficient in many things, he liked to play, and was always taking a risk.
As he grew, he was a character. Many folks can attest to his humor and gregariousness. “Let’s get this party started” was his go to phrase when he would arrive at gatherings. He could speak to anyone with boldness and without fear, never timid in his interactions. He was also a young man who kept his reputation clean and was awarded the “Honesty Award” in school, which made him very proud. (His parents were pretty proud too).
Once he became ill, he and his parents knew that the remaining time would be precious. So, Ronan traveled to many places, met distant relatives and spent time with family and the community. Although there were many things he couldn’t do, he had the most important parts of life in abundance. Lots of love from the community and family, a faith in God, prayers from all over the world, a care team that loved him, and plenty of love from him to share with us.
Ronan’s rare disease of Metachromatic Leukodystrophy was, and remains, unknown to most people. His life and his story have already made an impact in the rare disease community, and his memory and legacy will help children in the future to not be burdened by MLD.
His light is not extinguished but shines on in the heavenly places, and in our hearts. He is at peace, and was at peace, and he would tell you- “Let’s get this party started!”
Ronan’s family is thankful to the folks of the greater Copper Valley for all of their support over the years.
Tsin’aen and God Bless.
