Glennallen, Alaska, mourns the passing of one of their great pioneers, Bonnie Lorraine Wilson, who died in her sleep August 30, 2021.

Bonnie was born December 6, 1934, in Madison, South Dakota.  She and her husband, Jack Wilson, moved to Glennallen, Alaska, in the early 1960s.  

She worked as a schoolteacher for the Copper River School District, teaching elementary age students for several years.  Many of her past students still live in the area and fondly remember the times in her classroom.  

She and her husband owned and operated Wilson Air Service, which included rescue service for stranded pilots caught in bad weather in remote Alaskan areas. 

They also owned and operated Basin Liquors, a landmark stop for residents and visitors, who enjoyed the beautiful gardens Bonnie created and maintained, and The Paper Shack, the area’s stationery store. Bonnie was one tough Norwegian and worked both latter businesses, always smiling, until the time of her death. 

Bonnie was known by family and friends for her positive attitude, upbeat personality, and her always ready and distinct laughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wilson, and her son, Tony Wilson.  She is survived by her son, T.J. Wilson, and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly.
